Hello.

This disabled gamer is reporting that on his PS5 3rd party controllers are not working. Including his PS4 controller. That sort of peripheral lock is non-sensical in my opinion. It's one thing for eSports, it's another for casual gamers especially considering there is no warning or anything.

Does anyone have contacts with the battlefield team to maybe poke them about this issue?

Sincerely,

Andreas Lopez

A colleague of mine has looked into this, and found the below posts.
The developers [EA and Dice], of the games are aware of these/similar issues. Apologies if you already know this!

Yeah, that Apple video was a big win 🙂

I think it's important to be polite, but clear with Sony.

Maybe a video showing people having the problems, people backing it, things they've done well, and this one issue. I once had luck with Apple with a video: https://youtu.be/-zlgmgBmqlA<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2F-zlgmgBmqlA&data=04%7C01%7C%7C28147a2c6d3543cdcf0808d98a46291b%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637692856203134829%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=MqqZKHe91nimkl56GLF9LmMsJVerdSXfYw6znwgMVoQ%3D&reserved=0> alongside others I'm sure asking for the same thing. Something that's easy to grasp and that may easily cross language barriers (thinking of Japan higher ups).

I no longer have time to do that sort of thing. I have tried to forward these issues to Sony repeatedly. Since 1999! https://switchgaming.blogspot.com/2019/01/1999-letter-to-playstation.html<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fswitchgaming.blogspot.com%2F2019%2F01%2F1999-letter-to-playstation.html&data=04%7C01%7C%7C28147a2c6d3543cdcf0808d98a46291b%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637692856203139806%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=lT5Bd99vRJ8o1VqaNct761VeK8URsp5VFJn%2Fhdb1ySQ%3D&reserved=0>. Any other thoughts? :)

If that's indeed how it is (which is just an assumption) then I'm sure they have already been told, there are enough good people internally who care a great deal about accessibility

Wow! That's even worse then. Is there any way we can champion to Sony Execs to communicate that there are people who need 3rd party controllers?

Maybe even start a petition or start working with the bigger charities like able gamer to get more attention towards this?

I love my PS5 but I can't just watch such a huge anti-accessibility policy stand without trying to do something.

Any thoughts on how to address this with Sony?

Yeah AFAIK it's just down to the PS5, rather than rules laid down by individual games. If you want to play PS5 games Sony want you to use a PS5 controller. I've heard of one single third party PS5 controller available, it costs $250 and isn't very different.
I don't think three is any technical reason why other controllers couldn't work, they work with adaptors and when using the streaming hacky workaround. It smells to me of Sony execs believing that the controller is some new paradigm of interaction that is the key differentiator of their product.

So wonderful that gamers won't just choose to use it themselves and instead must be forced to 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's very annoying and seemingly completely unnecessary. You can get around it in a very clunky way, using a Windows PC and the Playstation Remote Play app: https://remoteplay.dl.playstation.net/remoteplay/lang/en/ps5_win.html<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fremoteplay.dl.playstation.net%2Fremoteplay%2Flang%2Fen%2Fps5_win.html&data=04%7C01%7C%7C28147a2c6d3543cdcf0808d98a46291b%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637692856203144784%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=eCWTnwx1DeJK8A6H%2Bqvf2NqtP9Su3UPVl72S1OUSq3U%3D&reserved=0>

Here's some others that don't work with a PS4 controller directly:

Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Lost in Random
Deathloop
Fornite
Doom Eternal
Back 4 Blood
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Call Of Duty: Vanguard
Diablo II: Resurrected
Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut
Wreckfest
Ghost recon break point
2k22

If only Sony would allow for some nature of co-piloting a PS4 gamepad alongside a PS5 gamepad, I just can't see how they lose out. Perhaps it's not possible?

Currently the PS5 gamepad walled garden is shutting a lot of physically disabled gamers out. Let's hope it gets better soon.
